Last week I lost my grandmother, the matriarch of the Levensailor family. She was 35 years a widow.
Isn’t that something?
She wasn’t the typical grandmother, or mother from what I hear. I remember her letting me drive her BMW, at 13, in the country club parking lot. One time she took me to a Mexican restaurant where we watched boxing, she said it was her favorite to watch. She rarely, if ever, cooked. This was a good thing, as she gave me botulism twice, and also because we would have thanksgiving “at the club”. …
some bacon or country ham

1 white onion
1 green onion aka scallions
2 cloves garlic
Bob’s Red Mill Grits

substitutions: if you don’t drink you can sub red wine or white vinegar for the chardonnay. it’s just not going to be quite good. if you don’t have tomato paste OR chardonnay, you can use ketchup, just don’t tell anyone.
spices: cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, black pepper. …

Inspired by all the talk about Quentin Tarantino’s top movie list, and the unexpected films he included, I decided to make my own list :
#1 Lawless (2012)
John Hillcoat, Nick Cave (Aussies)
Shia LeBeuof, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman
Based on the book “The Wetting County in the World,” Lawless is a perfect bootlegging film set in prohibition era 1930s Virginia. It was Shia’s much needed reprieve back into small budget films after “Transformers,” and my introduction to the badass-ness of Tom Hardy and Jason Clarke.
.. and a song to get you started
#1 The War On Drugs — Lost In a Dream (2014)
While 2017’s “A Deeper Understanding” won a Grammy, the prior album was better. With modern recording techniques, DAWs and autotune, there is a longing for something human and just a little imperfect. These rock songs are good enough to play with headphones on and have people look at you a little funny. All of a sudden the world makes a little more sense. …
If you’re like me, you have a ton of conference calls, and if you aren’t a complete noob, you have yourself on mute when you don’t need to talk. The problem is hunting for the mute button and no visibility when you are “on air”
For this I use Push to Talk in conjunction with Karabiner to remap caps lock to Push to Talk’s shortcut sequence (mine’s control+p). The best part is I get a blue light that goes on and off to show when i’m “on air”.
I realize this takes away the caps lock, but unless you’re in…
